The Khronnians were an ancient humanoid species from the planet Khronnia Prime in the Gamma Quadrant. They formed a feudalistic government called the Khronnian Suzerainty and fought in many conflicts with the Dominion.
The Khronnians were a technologically advanced and warrior-like but comparatively peaceful race of relatively large humanoids who come from the same genetic material as Klingons. Due to their advanced technology and ferocity in combat, the Dominion have avoided their territory and the sectors around it.
Much of Khronnian space cover that part of the Gamma Quadrant several light years behind the orifice of the Bajoran wormhole's terminus. This includes the Abraxis System, which sits along their borders, located bseveral light years eyond the Chamra Vortex from the far end of the Bajoran wormhole
Prior to the establishment of the Abraxis Command in the Gamma Quadrant, Vice Admiral Razal Gibran was tasked by Fleet Admiral Maximus Hunter to establish first contact with the Khronnians to learn more about their race. Taking temporary command of the Defiant-class Tactical Frigate USS Raging Bull, Gibran crossed the wormhole enroute to Khronnian territory. He was subsequently escorted to the planet Khronnia Prime, the homeworld of the Khronnians, and was introduced to their ruler, the suzerain. After weeks following first contact procedures, Gibran was able to get the consent of the suzerain to use the uninhabited Abraxis System as base of operations of Starfleet's first Sector Command in the Gamma Quadrant, Abraxis Command.
The Khronnians noticed the provisional use of transwarp technology by the Prometheus-class Assault Cruiser USS Brave when it laid out a series of subspace communications relay stations in a nearly straight line from Starbase 514 in the Alpha Quadrant and all the way to the Abraxis Command headquarters, Deep Space Gamma-01, which was under construction at that time. The Khronnians offered to share their transwarp technology to the Federation. However, the transwarp technology of the Khronnians was found to be similar to the Borg and the Voth and equally incompatible to Federation technology.
Instead the Khronnians shared their older technology of enhanced warp drive propulsion to the starships of Abraxis Command and to Task Force Mek’leth. This enhanced warp drive could be in constant active operation for years at a time, allowing a starship to safely reach and indefinitely sustain extremely high warp factors.
