The Adamant-class starship was a type of Destroyer and Heavy Raider that entered Starfleet service in 2412 as a refit to the Original Defiant Class.
History[]
The Defiant was conceived as Starfleet's first warship in response to the many new threats faced by the Federation in the mid-24th century but primarily the Borg. As more conservative elements of Starfleet began to worry of the Federation encountering hostile societies and the fear it's defenses were antiquated, the need for greater defensive capability was recognized. The vessels were purposed as a compact design, utilizing components typically installed aboard larger starships and packing a great deal of weaponry into a otherwise small, maneuverable ship. As such, many of these vessels were fielded in battle during the Dominion War.
The specifications for the USS Defiant were stolen by the Mirror counterpart or Miles O'Brien during a visit to the primary universe in 2371. "Smiley" O'Brien was able to download the schematics from Deep Space 9's computers and brought them back to the mirror universe, where construction began at Terok Nor, now under rebel control.
By 2375 the Terran Rebellion captured Regent Worf using their own Defiant Class and later formed the Galactic Commonwealth. An unknown amount of time later the Mirror Counterpart of the Traveler Wesley Crusher came to power and using his Multidimentional abilties to force submission rebuilt the Terran Empire with himself as Emperor.
By 2409 the Terran Empire had made several crossovers into the Prime Universe stealing technology and Starship Schematics from the Federations Starfleet including the Odyssey, Hestia, Reliant, Cabot, Gagarin and Valiant classes and reverse engineering their own versions. In 2411 during an attack on the Federation's Izar Research station the empire debued their own updated model of the Defiant Class.
Later that year Starfleet commissioned their own Prototype based on the Terran Adamant Class design but altering it to be more in line with the Federation's ideals.
Technical information[]
Physical Arrangement[]
The Adamant class used the same basic design as the Defiant with a single Primary Hull flanked by attached Warp Nacelles and a detachable Main Deflector although more streamlined and angular.
Unlike most or typical Starfleet vessels, the Adamant's role as a Raider first and foremost disregarded many of the typical leisure, recreational and living amenities enjoyed by other vessels. They possessed no lounges, recreation centres, or arboretums; the ships mess hall is small and doubles as an informal meeting venue. Much of the Adamant classes systems were new technology or updated and re-engineered systems from their Defiant class predecessors and the 2380s Protostar class which necessitated the high level of automation and compact components due to its size.
Propulsion[]
Adamant Classes used class 9 warp drives modified to fit their smaller frame and as such had a significant amount of power for their size. The Impulse Engines and RCS Thrusters were some of the most powerful ever designed making this class one of the most manoeuvrable starships ever designed along side the Pathfinder and Constitution III classes. Adamant classes could not usually be outfitted with Quantum Slipstream Technology without a mass redesign of their propulsion systems but could be updated with a Federation Transwarp Coil allowing access to the network through a Transwarp Conduit.
Eight plasma vents, four for each warp drive unit, were situated on the dorsal side of the hull to allow for rapid ejection of warp plasma in emergency situations. To aid in the Adamant's combat role, warp signature masking was incorporated into its drive. This system provided the vessel with superior stealth at ranges greater than fifteen kilometers.
Intelligence Systems[]
Adamant Class carried multiple Intel sensor drones designed to gather Intelligence. An advanced federation cloaking device was also integrated into the design, providing a wide range of tactical and surveillance capabilities for each vessel. (It was included due to the collapse of the Romulan Star Empire and the Romulan Republic Dissolving the Treaty of Algeron upon joining the Khitomer Alliance much to the ire of the remaining remnants of the Star Empire and the Romulan Free State)
Starships of the class were equipped with active sensor arrays, derived from Project Deep Shadow. Sensor instruments were located in seven pallets on the dorsal hull. The arrays allowed the destroyer to gather information about and expose vulnerabilities in a target in combination with the ship's active sensor probes (ASP).
Tactical systems[]
The Adamant-class earned its destroyer classification with its heavy armaments. Each class mounted 6x Type-XIII Phaser Beam Emitters, 6x Type-VIII Phaser Beam Arrays. 4x Pulse Phaser Cannons. Both the Emitter and Cannon units made use of Annular Confinement Beam-jacketing devices, allowing them to discharge between warp fields. These were supported by 2 fore and 2 aft Pulse-fire Variable Payload Torpedo Launchers holding a cash of both Photon and Quantum torpedoes as standard ordnance. For bombardment of hardened targets they also carried a complement of Tricobalt, Hellfire and Transphasic Torpedoes.
The Terran Adamant class utilised Agony Phaser Quad Cannons, a Terran equivalent to the Quad Phaser Cannon which incorporated Agony Booth technology into their own weapons thus causing hull and system damage over time as well as Repeating Warhead Launchers allowing ordinance to be deployed at a high rate of fire.
Interior design[]
Main Bridge[]
The Main bridge of an Adamant-class sunken into the middle of the ship was similar to the Original Defiant Module with the newer 25th century style interior with more consoles and updated LCARS, deviating with darker lighting. The floors had no carpet and holo-emitters were installed on each deck.
Holographic projectors were equipped throughout Adamant-class vessels. These allowed for emergency holograms to be quickly activated at any location within the vessel at the time of need. The class' small photonic core stored the programs for Emergency Medical, Engineering, Navigation, Tactical and Security Holograms.
Crew Support[]
Crew quarters are equally sparse with double bunked, everyone on board shares a room with another person except the ships commanding officer. The class did include a single compact Holodeck based on those designed for the smaller Protostar Class Science vessels. The "Battle" Sickbay found on Adamant classes also received an update being larger than the bare-bones sickbay found on the older Defiant class featuring 4x Recovery Care Biobeds, 2x Intensive Care Biobeds and 1x Primary Surgical Suite along side a small Medical Officer Duty Station and Storage Lockers.
Transport and Cargo[]
Transporter Rooms[]
The Adamant-class features only 1 Personnel Transporter and 1 Cargo Transporter in the Launch Bay with 6 Pads connected to 5 Emitter Arrays along the External Hull. The Adamant class is also capable of landing on a planetary surface using 4 retractable landing legs.
Shuttlebay[]
The Adamant Class has 1 Launch Bay at the mid Ventral of the ship housing a small cargo hold with enough area to store and launch 2-6 small shuttlecraft and 2 Workbees as well as area for a small wing of Tovarek FTR Drones dock on ceiling clamps. If authorised by the sector commander they could also replace 4 Shuttles with 2 Mark-3 Valkyrie Warp Fighters.
Adamant Classes house a Standard Compliment of 2x Mark-III Workbees, 4x Type 12 Shuttles, 2x Type 18H Shuttles, 8x Tovarek Class FTR Drones and an optional compliment of 2 Mark-3 Valkyries.
