Admiral is a military rank, the equivalent of which is used by the service organizations of many civilizations. As a traditional grade, the rank of admiral is between the rank of vice admiral and fleet admiral. Admirals command fleets of ships, as opposed to a captain, commanding a single ship or a unit.
In comparison to other ranking systems, this rank is equivalent to the ground-based rank of general, or the Candorian Union's quasi-military rank of legate. Other equivalent ranks included the Ferengi Alliance rank of GuiMon, the Cardassian Union rank of legate, and the Breen Confederacy's thot. The Romulan equivalent was enriov.
This grade is used in some form by many other cultures, including the Folian Star Empire and the Jeloran Empire.
