The antiproton is the sub atomic anathemaic (polar opposite) equivalent of the Proton. They are a principal energy fuel source in various advanced weapons systems for species such as the Ba'ul and Ranans of multiple universes.
It also is used as a form of propulsion plasma for Jem'Hadar assault craft and the warp fuel for several other species.
Antiprotons are a stable form of antibaryonic matter, but they are typically short-lived, since any collision with a proton will cause both particles to be annihilated in a burst of energy or can quickly go through "quantum evaporation" dissapating out of reality and back into the quantum vacuum.
Antiprotons have such a extreme scale of varying energy emission that this bandwidth of energy variance was officially termed as the Antiprotonic Spectrum. Which created a measurable scale of sub atomic energy that could be placed next to and compared with the more visible electromagnetic spectrum.
Element Function[]
Antiprotons are a super "quantum magnetic" particle element, emitting strong, weak atomic and gravitonic energies that allow the particle to be extremely malleable as they can near equally attract, repel and warp gluon and muon interaction enabling the element to dramatically change its energy emission and conversion.
Antiprotons are usually sped and collided into a energy conversion chamber containing either a small rod of typically iridium or basic radioactive matter. The chamber both converts the particles into varying levels of energetic forms and maintains the external temperature of several 100 million degrees Kelvin to prevent quantum evaporation.
Antiprotons can be surprisingly be held in a jacketed field of basic electromagnetism and fired in a beam or burst of either pure Antiprotons or a mix of other particle elements as well.
Element usage and History[]
Antiprotons are some of the oldest quantum based elements within known space. Minute traces of Antiprotons are emitted from primordial black holes and distant regions of the Galaxy. Within Universe Delta far greater amounts of Antiprotons were discovered and measured existing within the Omega quadrant outside of the defined edges of the Galaxy.
With the quadrant existing as a "stellar graveyard" consisting of dying and exotic particle constructed stars expelled from the central galactic region the rare element stars emitted far greater levels of Antiprotons drifting into currents of galactic cosmic rays colliding into varying sub atomic and atomic elements converting them into varying energetic forms.
Publicly the earliest known account of weaponized Antiprotons was in 2267 as the crew of the USS Enterprise encountered a giant automated weaponized drone that fired a massive cutter like beam of pure Antiprotons that could easily slice chunks off of a planetary body and tractor in the sections to "eat" them in order to convert the chunks into energy for the device.
The drone named simply the "Planet Killer" was destroyed by driving a ship with a self destruct charge reacting with the antimatter inside of it.
However the actual earliest Starfleet recorded usage of Antiproton based weaponry was with the secluded species of the Ba'ul on Kaminar in 2237. While the Ba'ul seemed to just recently capable of warp travel had managed in less than a few years to develop both emitter array and cannon based antiproton and multi particle emission weapons while the Federation were barely phasing out Phase cannons as standard weapons for the fleet.
And while both the knowledge of the Ba'ul and their technology were declassified centuries later it was still unknown how the species managed to collect and weaponize antiprotons so extensively.
By the mid 24th century Galaxy, Sovereign and most standard utility class ships used a trace amount of antiprotons to reenforce deflector shield integrity from within the dish. However by the early 25th century during the multiversal crisis Q strongly suggested that all Federation ships use another particle element as the antiprotons are actually unstable within basic shields and could cause an internal collapse.
In 2366 the being known as the Crystalline entity had the biological ability to propel itself through space by ejecting antiproton plasma. The plasma could be easily traced via basic ship scan and its travel path could be easily tracked.
In the same year the USS Enterprise-D was sent to investigate the disappearance of the colonists of Rana IV. Upon which the ship encountered a illusory Warship that fired a variety of antiproton weapons that could have easily destroyed the ship but it was just a decoy to drive it away created by the alien colonist Kevin Uxbridge.
During the Dominion War it was discovered that Jem'Hadar attack craft used antiprotons as warp and impulse propulsion plasma as sensory readings on their damaged ships indicated large amounts of antiprotons leaking from their ships nacelles.
The Jem'Hadar and several other species also used minute beams of antiprotons as a energy shield disruptor, rupturing the energy field then attacking with their standard weapons to disable enemy ships.
Romulan warbirds since the mid 23rd century emitted small amounts of antiprotons from their cloaking fields that made their ships easy to see by the late 24th century via tachyon based sweep scan. The Reman Dreadnought Scimitar thus was installed with a basic cloak upgrade that didn't emitt antiprotons which remained standard for all romulan ships for decades afterwards.
By the early 25th century the Federation outside of I-Mod weapons there was also added antiproton weapons to classes such as the Prethoryn and several other heavy military cruisers.
Warship Voyager History[]
In 2364 the NXT Enterprise-D is sent on a first contact mission with the natives of Rana IV. However upon reaching the planet the crew of the Enterprise-D is caught in a conflict between the native Ranans, a energy species the Douwd and a invading alien race the Husnock.
While trying to back out of the conflict as the Ranans have have heavily advanced warships that used mainly antiproton arrays and cannons. However the Enterprise-D is stopped by the Husnocks military allies the Ba'ul with ships also armed with antiproton arrays and the Antiproton Multibeam cannon a weapon similar to the Infinity modulator.
After nearly destroying the Enterprise-D and also nearly killing its commanding officer the Imperial Federation declares war on the Ba'ul rallying with the Ranans entering one of the largest military conflicts since the Mars/Vulcan war of the late 22nd century.
