The Bajoran race is native to the planet Bajor in the Alpha Quadrant. They are a humanoid species distinguished primarily by several horizontal creases on the bridge of the nose.
History[]
Bajor was once occupied by the Cardassians for over fifty years, during which time the Bajorans were pressed into service as slave labor, forced to aid in the strip mining of their own homeworld. The occupation led to the formation of a resistance movement and acts of sabotage and terrorism aimed at wearing down Cardassian resolve. In 2369, the Cardassians abandoned Bajor and handed over their starbase Terok Nor, which Bajor operated jointly with the Federation (thereafter renamed Deep Space 9). Bajor eventually joined the Federation on September 29, 2376. Unlike Earth, Bajoran days last 26 hours.
Religion[]
The Bajorans have a strong religion, which has the Prophets and the Pah-wraiths. The Prophets' "home" is in the Celestial Temple - also known as the Bajoran wormhole. The Pah-wraiths were locked in the fire caves of Bajor by Captain Benjamin Sisko - the Emissary - in 2375.
Military[]
The post-occupation Bajoran military was comprised of a militia and a small fleet of raiders and fighter craft. The militia itself was made up of many former members of the resistance.
