The Bajoran Militia was the military of the Third Republic of Bajor and had been in existence for millennia. It was dissolved during the Occupation by the Cardassians, but was reestablished in 2369 following the Cardassian withdrawal.
Deep Space 9[]
Several Militia personnel served on Deep Space 9 with Captain Benjamin Sisko, most notably Major Kira Nerys.
Between 2373 and 2374, the Militia worked with Dominion forces when they occupied the Bajoran system, as per Bajor's non-aggression pact with the Dominion. Several members later helped overthrow the Dominion's control of Deep Space 9.
The Militia continued to serve as Bajor's planetary defense force after the Republic joined the Federation.
The Militia initially operated a small space fleet dubbed Space Arm, including three Chok Thol-class frigates purchased from the Breen Confederacy. Space Arm initially operated in tandem with Starfleet but was shut down in 2401 for budget reasons, with the personnel either retiring, transferring to other jobs in the Militia, or joining the Federation military.
Practices[]
After being reformed following the Occupation of Bajor, the Militia as an organization was determined that Bajor would never again be captured by a foreign power, and devoted itself to producing the finest surface army in known space.
Boot camp took place at Camp Li, located on Mount Bahatan in the Kolharis Range in Samren Province. No matter their specialty, recruits were not allowed to graduate until they passed proficiency tests in marksmanship and hand-to-hand combat, and could build a decent IED. Recruits were also required to learn to speak and read Cardassian and tlhIngan Hol to qualify for offworld service.
The Militia saluted superior officers with the right palm facing out. By the late 2370s it had become traditional for any Militia personnel to salute anyone who had served in the Bajoran Resistance, regardless of current rank or station.
