Carol Marcus was a female Molecular Biologist in the 23rd century.
She was born to Admiral Alexander Marcus and an unknown woman named "Wallace".
In the late 2250s and early 2260s, she had a romantic relationship with James T. Kirk. The relationship produced a son, David. Carol decided that her world was too different from Kirk's, and withheld the knowledge that he had a son.
In the late 2270s, Carol became a part of the File Alpha Scientific Association, a scientific research group that developed advanced technology. There, she met Keira Standish, a chemist who was a member of the group. Keira showed Carol Tetconis, a Romulan technology which generated living organisms from non-living matter. Carol came up with the idea of using Tetconis to create habitable planets out of barren moons and asteroids. Thus, Project Genesis was born.
