A dreadnought is a starship classification for any typically structurally larger and heavily-armed vessel, built solely for combat with the best weapons and strongest defenses.
The Centaran word for dreadnought is Karias.

In the early 25th century during the Multiversal crisis created by Q members of the Alpha Quadrant Alliance due to so many large scale and variant specialization ships and drone craft coming in from so many parelell realities began to distinguish and designate between subtypes of the dreadnought classes. These subtypes were based on specialization and technical service which included: dreadnought battlecruiser, dreadnought carrier, dreadnought cruiser, dreadnought warbird, and science dreadnought
