In 2369, Vice Admiral Alynna Nechayev gave Jellico command of the Enterprise-D. His experience in dealing with the Cardassians was thought to be invaluable, given the developing potential for conflict between the two powers. The Enterprise's previous commanding officer, Captain Jean-Luc Picard, was assigned to an undercover mission on Celtris III, where he was later abducted by Cardassians. Jellico was able to negotiate Picard's release, who later was reassigned back as CO of the Enterprise.
Commander-in-Chief[]
In the 2380s, Starfleet Commander-in-Chief Fleet admiral Jellico, with his efficient and demanding style of command, spearheaded the rebuilding effort of Starfleet. But since the demand of rebuilding was great, Starfleet decided to institute a power-sharing arrangement by 2385. Jellico and the rest of Starfleet Command on Earth concentrated on the rebuilding effort and oversaw defensive operations around the inner territories of Federation space.
