The enhanced warp drive is a warp drive propulsion technology developed by only a few species in the galaxy which allowed a starship to reach and sustain extremely high warp factors and travel quickly between distant parts of space.
In principle, the isodynamic design of the enhanced drive allows the dilithium matrix to remain active and running hot all the time, provided that the deuterium manifolds were never opened wider than 600 microns. The dilithium matrix and the isolitic converter had to be monitored constantly. A new type of subspace radiation would then be emitted by the warp drive that affected the whole ship.
Through this technology, the ship's drive could be in constant active operation for years at a time, allowing a starship to safely reach and sustain extremely high warp factors. In effect, a warp field was emitted from the warp core itself. In main engineering, the subspace radiation produced by the core was at its highest level. Exposure to this was safe for Humans, other humanoid lifeforms and all the systems of a starship.
In the Federation, the technology is based on modifications to the class 9 warp drive technology of a Federation Intrepid-class starship first made by the the Silver Blood biomimetic lifeforms on the USS Voyager while traveling across the Delta Quadrant.
Before discovering transwarp propulsion technology, the Khronnians had been using the enhanced warp drive on their starships for decades.
