The Ephuar were a large snake-like species from Natrix, a Federation member in the Beta Quadrant. By 2350, the Ephuar had formed a successful interstellar society based in the Natrix system, located in a sparsely populated area in the Beta Quadrant near the edge of the galaxy.
Although Ephuar got their oxygen from the air, they normally got around in water. To move on land, they required assistive technology.
Ephuar individuals could also be found on cosmopolitan worlds such as Earth and Ferenginar. The Ephuar community in Venice in the mid-2350s was credited with revitalizing the ancient Earth city, which enabled the restoration of many historic buildings.
