Gabriel Lorca was a Chimeric virus augmented Terran Imperial Starfleet officer in the 23rd century. He served aboard the ISS Buran. In 2256, he switched places with his prime universe counterpart eventually getting command of the USS Discovery.
It was discovered by future historians that Lorca was one of the individuals/events that created an anachronistic advancement in both Terran imperial and prime universe technology in the mid 2250s.
The events of a burgeoning rebellion against Empress Hoshi Sato orchestrated by Philippa Georgiou and the Klingon/Federation war all within the same period allowed Lorca to rapidly gain both power and connections due to times of crisis that along with collected knowledge of advanced technologies such as the spore drive and an AI that would be one of the prototypes for technologies such as the Command Core Hologram.
