The Jupiter-class was a type of carrier, the first developed by Starfleet Engineering, in service with Starfleet in the early 25th century.
History[]
The success of the Peregrine-class attack fighters during the Dominion War caused Starfleet Command to see the benefit of small fighter craft. Years later, the Vo'Quv-class carriers of the Klingon Defense Force proved to be extremely effective at delivering small fighter craft to remote locations and supporting larger fleet operations against Starfleet during the early engagements of the Third Federation-Klingon War. The Starfleet Corps of Engineers worked with Caitian engineers to upgrade their Atrox-class carriers for combat in the early 2400s. However, Starfleet Command soon decided that a carrier following standard Starfleet starship design principles was needed. Thus the Jupiter-class, the first Starfleet vessel designed principally as a carrier, was born.
