The Maquis is the name of an organization who were originally against the Federation-Cardassian alliance.

Note, their objections were not based on racial hatred for the Cardassians, even though some had suffered loss at their hands, but due to the fact that, when the Federation made the alliance, they sold away many peaceful Federation colonies to the Cardassians.
