Montgomery Scott, also known as Scotty, was a Human male, renown as the Chief Engineer on the USS Enterprise and the USS Enterprise-A.
Alternate timeline[]
In an alternate timeline, where the Federation entered into a war with the Second Imperium in 2285, Scotty was hastily promoted to captain and made commanding officer of the newly built Constellation-class star cruiser USS Hathaway. Scotty was at first perturbed by this, as he had hoped to remain on board the Enterprise. However after some coaxing by Kirk, Spock, and Mira Romaine he eventually warmed to the idea and settled in. Despite his new position, Scotty insisted on wearing engineering-gold, and he would spend the majority of his time in engineering, much to the annoyance of his chief engineer, leaving his first officer tasked with manning the bridge. The Hathaway under Scott was assigned a top-secret mission and was equipped with a cloaking device. She was to "fly in, fly out" from behind enemy lines, as quickly as possible, gathering all available intel.
