Morgan Bateson was a male Human Starfleet officer from the 23rd century who experienced temporal displacement to the 24th century.
Background[]
Bateson joined Starfleet Academy sometime around 2256 and graduated in 2260.
By 2278, Bateson was already a captain and was in command of the Soyuz-class starship USS Bozeman. During the same year, he and his ship were caught in a temporal causality loop, which they were only able to escape with the help of the Galaxy-class starship USS Enterprise-D 90 years later in 2368.
Bateson and his crew eventually acclimitized themselves in the 24th century. By 2371, Bateson was still active in Starfleet and was supervising the construction of the Sovereign-class starship, which was eventually christened the USS Enterprise (NCC-1701-E). He was later given temporary command of the Enterprise-E during its shakedown in early 2372.
Sovereign class and the Borg[]
By mid 2372 Bateson and his crew were given the Sovereign-class starship USS Bozeman-A. Both he and his ship underwent a trial of fire soon after entering service when they faced the Borg at the Battle of Sector 001 in 2373.
By 2381, Bateson was in command of the Sovereign-class USS Atlas. During the Borg Invasion of 2381, the Atlas was assigned to lead a fleet of vessels against a Borg force of ten cubes threatening Vulcan. Recalling the efforts at the Battle of Sector 001, Bateson experienced anxiety, despite their apparent advantage. Although the Starfleet forces outnumbered the enemy four to one, the Borg's adaptation to the transphasic torpedo left the fleet vulnerable. He attempted to warn off a last-ditch attempt by the fleet's reserve wing to no avail. With so few ships operational after the engagement, it was with great anger that he was forced to send a subspace communication warning the Vulcans of their impending doom.
When the Borg's march was temporarily halted, Bateson rallied the remaining four ships to take out as many cubes as possible. Feeling energized over their momentary advantage, Bateson merely rolled his eyes when orders from Starfleet Command confirmed an all-out immediate engagement. Bateson led the fleet in utterly obliterating the remaining Borg forces at Vulcan, securing the planet, and sending a sarcastic message to Command thanking them for the permission to engage.
Vanguard Command[]
By 2385, Bateson and the retrofitted and refitted USS Atlas were attached to Vanguard Command and the Vanguard Fleet and were assigned to Task Force Invincible under Admiral Jean-Luc Picard.
Bateson assumed the designation and rank of Fleet Captain whenever he was placed in operational command of Mission Group Bravo during Condition Yellow, which was one fourth of the task force. He was second-in-command to Commodore Norodin Khan of Strike Group Two during Condition Red-1.
Task Force Invincible was one of seven task forces comprising the Vanguard Fleet.
