The Multi-Phasic Shield System is the central heavy combat defense system for multiple Federation iterations for several centuries. It differs from Metaphasic shielding which is considered a more publicly utilized and commercial system for dangerous exploration purposes.

The Shield is a specialized Combat System equipped aboard most ships going into high risk combat situations and into direct combat with the Borg.

System Mechanics[]

The mechanics of the Multiphasic Shield are similar to both the Heavy Particle Shield and Infinity modulator systems in the sense that it utilized the abilities of both systems in somewhat the same way.

The shield "Trans-Phases" its own Energy Resonance Frequency and energy particle composition into varying strengths and interatomic structures in order to withstand almost all known forms of energy and projectile-based weaponry. The Trans-Phase process is possible by utilizing a Graviton/Quantum Resonance generator which at optimum conditions can rapidly phase the shield at the rate of 200.5 Phase Shifts per second. At full optimum capability, the shield can withstand 37,500 Degrees Kelvin or 11 divided by a factor of 333.4 Isotons of intense heat or radiation.

The shield prevents the Borg from adapting to a ship's shield harmonics and cancels the effect of their ship's suspension and tractor beams. it also can prevent several forms of Transporter technology from piercing the hull, preventing hostile boarding actions.

System History[]

The Multi-Phasic Shield was originally designed at a Starfleet Developmental Labs in 2356 in order to defend ships against Borg incursions. However, later on the shield could also be utilized for utility tasks such as heavy subspace radiation and stellar energy emission similar to its more commercial counterparts.

However this system was later replaced by Multispacial shields which were later perfected into Unimatrix shields which although developed in the 24th century wouldn't become more commonplace by the mid 29th.
