Robert “Bob” Dalton was a Human Starfleet officer.

History[]

Robert Dalton was born in 2331. He attended Starfleet Academy from 2349 to 2353 and Starfleet Medical Academy from 2353 to 2357. Like all graduates of the medical academy, he began his career with the rank of lieutenant junior grade. Dalton's first posting was to Starbase 87 where he served as a medical officer for three years.

It was during his second year on the starbase that he met a geologist named Claire Kerekes. Two years his junior, she herself had only been aboard a short time, and the two quickly became close. They married later that year and had their first child, their daughter Cerys, in 2359.

In 2360, Robert and Claire transferred to the Galaxy-class starship USS Gibson. There, he progressed to assistant chief medical officer-which, on a ship that size, was nearly as significant as a CMO on a smaller ship-and was promoted to full lieutenant a year later, shortly before the birth of their son Robert Jr., or Rob.

The Daltons led a happy, comfortable life on the Gibson, but tragedy struck in 2366 when Claire was killed during an away mission. The shock affected Robert deeply. After being informed of the accident, Dalton flatly refused to believe it. Her body was retrieved and returned to the ship and when Dalton witnessed this, he broke down and had to be restrained. His children sent to stay with their grandparents on Earth. Dalton was placed on medical leave and completed extensive counseling.

Once cleared for active duty, Dalton threw himself into his work. He now resented the familiarity of the Gibson and sought a way out. In 2367, he interviewed for chief medical officer aboard the new science vessel, the USS Pioneer. He was selected to join the crew by Captain Tobias Quinton, advanced to lieutenant commander, and prepared to make the move.
