Sheleth (also known by the nickname Shelly) was a Kasheeta officer in Starfleet.
Service record[]
Due to the short lifespan of her species, Sheleth entered Starfleet Academy at the age of 12. In 2397, at the age of 23, she was promoted to the rank of commander and assigned to the USS Paramaribo, a small transport ship.
Traits[]
Like many other Kasheeta females, Sheleth could sometimes come across as impersonal or harsh to people she didn't know yet, but she worked hard to earn the trust of the Paramaribo's crew. She didn't feel she deserved the rank of commander at such a young age, and suspected that she was only given command of the Paramaribo so Starfleet wasn't left without a Kasheeta commanding officer.
Growing up on Kashet, an environmentally damaged planet with persistent gender disparity and conflict, had a major impact on her outlook. She felt embarrassed about her planet's societal problems, unlike planets such as Earth and Vulcan which had gone through major wars of their own and grew to become equal and stable societies.
To distinguish her crew from the passengers, Sheleth had them wear a set of uniforms that differed from the standard Starfleet uniforms of the 2390s. Their design took inspiration from Starfleet uniforms worn in the 2250s and were primarily dark gray, with the exception of the white variant for medical officers.
Relationships[]
In 2384, Sheleth's childhood friend Bsictiu Noe, who was raised in the frigid wilderness outside the cities, became one of the first Kasheeta males to enlist at Starfleet Academy. Bsictiu died in battle in 2391.
Before serving on the Paramaribo together, Sheleth and Ashley Rathipal had known each other as friends in the busy Earth spaceport city of Kourou. Although Sheleth wished to be completely honest and candid with Rathipal, she was uncomfortable asking about personal matters relating to Rathipal's gender identity, as Sheleth had grown up with the strict gender binary on Kashet and did not have a good sense of what was appropriate. Sheleth was fond of puzzle-based holographic training exercises such as Enterprise Training Program 412. (IST: Time Trap Training) She worked with Reginald Barclay and Tom Paris to design one based on Barclay's Voyager program.
When Sheleth took the Kobayashi Maru test in the Academy around 2392, she was convinced there were hidden enemy ships nearby, and refused to violate the treaty to rescue the disabled ship, believing it would lead to certain failure. She instructed her crew to open comm channels so the other ship's crew could have their last words. (IST: No-Win Scenario)
