The Solanae Dyson Sphere was a Dyson sphere built around around a brown dwarf star. Commissioned by the Iconian Empire and built by the Solanae thousands of years before the 25th century. It was discovered via an Iconian gateway in 2409 by various galactic powers from the Alpha and Beta Quadrants.
History[]
Constructed by the Solanae, an Iconian servitor race, around 200,000 years before its discovery in 2409, the Solanae Dyson Sphere was commissioned as an Iconian staging base when they were forced to abandon their homeworld after its orbital bombardment.
Originally, the star was of a different type. It transformed into a brown dwarf due to a large-scale industrial accident, which swamped the Dyson sphere with tetryon radiation, forcing the inhabitants to abandon the sphere.
In 2409, Federation scientists detected a 2 AU-wide region of "blank space" in the Delta Quadrant using the MIDAS array. The long-range science vessel USSCallisto was located close to the anomaly and was rerouted to investigate. Looking at the same region of space, a sensor network of the Romulan Republic detected high concentrations of boronite, sarium, carbon-60 and kelbonite, amongst others.
Soon after, the dormant Iconian gateway network was reactivated to save New Romulus from destruction. This revealed a ship-sized gateway in the Jouret system. The Romulan Republic claimed all gateways in its territory and the Solanae Dyson Sphere. However, the young nation was unable to control the vast structure on its own and turned to its allies, the Federation and the Klingon Empire, to investigate the Dyson sphere and remove the threat of Omega particles generated by the sphere.
It was eventually discovered that the Voth also laid claim to the Dyson sphere and sought to weaponize the Omega particles. To combat the Voth threat, Dyson Joint Command was organized by the three allies and was placed in charge of the Solanae sphere, under the aegis of the Romulan Republic. One of the sphere's spires was repurposed to serve as the command center for the allies.
The forces of Dyson Joint Command fought the Voth inside of the Dyson sphere until the arrival of the Undine, who obliterated the Voth forces.
