Subadmiral ("khre'riov" in Rihan, literally "commander-general") was a Romulan military rank equivalent to a Starfleet commodore or rear admiral (grade OF-7).
The rank was a hybrid rank considered to be between commissioned and flag officers. They were authorized to command small flotillas or task forces but were more typically in sole command of large warbirds.
The rank was used by both the Romulan Star Empire and the Romulan Republic; however the Tal'Shiar used a different rank structure with the equivalent rank being a brigadier general.
