Lieutenant commander Surec is a Vulcan Starfleet officer who served on board the all Vulcan starship, the USS T'Pola under the command of Captain Terik.
Around 2380, he visited the USS Enterprise with Captain Terik, who also happened to be Captain Jean-Luc Picard's classmate at Starfleet Academy. Here, they discussed the disappearance of another Starfleet vessel, the Seroga, whose captain was also a classmate of Picard. They travelled to the Seroga 's last known position, only to find all the crewmembers dead, they found that the entire crew had murdered themselves.
It turned out to be a virus and Surec also got it, killing Ensign Derr. The crew sustained him until they found a way to stop the virus from spreading.
