Task Force Rogue was a 6-ship task force commanded by Rear Admiral James T. Kirk and has as flagship the Prometheus-class Assault Cruiser USS Rogue.
Its “special asset” was the Belle Reve a starship designed to outwardly look like a Conestoga II-class freighter of the 23rd century but was actually a Q-ship with state-of-the-art capabilities.
Vanguard Command[]
The mission of Task Force Rogue and its flag officer was to provide "specialized Starfleet manpower and leadership" to extremely sensitive diplomatic and security situations that have the potential to adversely impact on the principles, mandate and operations of Starfleet and the Federation and its citizens.
The second-in-command of the task force was Captain Jade Kirk, a great-great grand-niece of the admiral who had inherited much of her ancestor's adventurism, brilliance in command, tenacity and courage.
Commanding the USS Belle Reve for Kirk was Captain Christine Macdonald, who had worked with him during the Virogen Crisis.
Task force complement[]
Task Force Rogue was composed of six (6) starships, namely:
- One Prometheus-class Assault Cruiser, the USS Rogue
- One Q-ship, the USS Belle Reve
- Two Saber-class Fast Frigates, the USS Boyar and the USS Varangian
- Two Defiant-class Tactical Frigates, the USS Wovoka and the USS Pontiac
Deployment[]
Task Force Rogue has a combined crew complement of 415. Next to Captain Jade Kirk and Christine Macdonald, the task force had four Starfleet officers who had the rank of full commander.
The ships of Task Force Rogue would generally operate as one unit, though not always near each other. In most covert missions, the USS Belle Reve would take point during the insertion stage, while the other ships would stay back, trailing the USS Belle Reve from a safe distance.
As a special unit of Vanguard Command, Task Force Rogue’s deployment area was as far as the region covered by Anuva Command in the Delta Quadrant, assisting Vice Admiral Kathryn Janeway, to the region covered by Berengaria Command in the Alpha Quadrant, helping Rear Admiral Mackenzie Calhoun, to the region covered by Denorios Command around the Bajoran wormhole, supporting Rear Admiral Ben Sisko, and all the way to Abraxis Command deep in the Gamma Quadrant aiding Vice Admiral Raz Gibran.
In the first year of its deployment, the task force had aided the ships and personnel of each of the major field divisions of Vanguard Command on at least one occasion.
Ship Enhancements[]
Each of the ships of Task Force Rogue were outfitted with ablative hull armor, ablative generators, enhanced defensive shields, enhanced long-range sensors, pulse phaser cannon assemblies, bio-neural circuitry, a warp drive that allows it to cruise at top sustained speeds of Warp 9.5, and a quantum slipstream drive.
The systems installed as part of the ships' slipstream drive included a quantum field focus controller at the front of the ship's main deflector, and a chroniton integrator; the latter of which could be used to take sensor readings several seconds into the future when the ships were using their slipstream drive.
The ships were also installed with holo-emitters on every deck to allow their holographic personnel complement a higher level of access and free movement around the ship. The ships’ computer systems and redundant power systems can each simultaneously bring online the following:
- 2 Long-term Command and Navigation Hologram (LCNH)
- 1 Long-term Science Hologram (LSH)
- 2 Long-term Security and Tactical Holograms (LSTH)
- 2 Long-term Engineering Holograms (LEH)
- 2 Long-term Medical Holograms (LMH)
When on missions, the ships of Task Force Rogue do not travel in one formation. They are split into two loose groups of three ships each, moving in one general direction but travelling far away enough from each other to avoid suspicion. First Squadron was led by the USS Rogue, while Second Squadron was led by the USS Belle Reve.
Task Force Rogue would frequently join forces with other parts of the Rapid Reaction Force in particular missions where there was a need for powerful starships to operate in multiple theaters simultaneously in attaining a single objective. Task Force Rogue would frequently work jointly with Captain Val Zaybor and the USS Victor, Captain Hakeem Majors and the USS Moro, and Captain Cornelia Junius and the USS Eclipse in many of these missions. During these conditions, Kirk Senior would have strategic command of the composite fleet, while Kirk Junior would have tactical command over the other captains.
During very critical situations where the fleet's task forces were needed to stay near to their respective sector command headquarters, the flagship of Vanguard Command, the Invincible-class Command Battleship-Fleet Carrier USS Invincible and its companion ships would form a 23-ship temporary battle group with Task Force Resilient, Task Force Rogue and four of the fastest starships from the Rapid Reaction Force to complete these missions. In these missions, Fleet Admiral Maximus Hunter had strategic command, while Admiral Jean-Luc Picard, Rear Admiral James T. Kirk and Captain Hakeem Majors had tactical command over their respective units. This temporary battle group wqs called Task Force Vanguard.
During these times, strategic command over the task forces of the Vanguard Fleet was in the hands of Admiral John Blackbull. He would not only provide oversight to all fleet movements from Vanguard Command headquarters at Station Frontier, he would also monitor the movements of this temporary battle group as well.
Though operating as one unit, the four components of this battle group operate on separate aspects of the mission.
