Vanguard Command[]

As of 2385, the USS Atlas had undergone extensive refits to carry more tactical features and was designated as secondary flagship of Task Force Invincible. The ship has Station Frontier as its headquarters and home port.

As part of Vanguard Command, the USS Atlas was extensively refitted to possess the following capabilities:

Offensive capabilities[]

Defensive capabilities[]

  • Enhanced and redundant structural integrity fields, which exponentially increase the ship's ability to maintain the integrity and shape of hulls and bulkheads against the extreme stresses caused by warp fields, weapons, and other motion.
  • Ablative hull armor, which rapidly dissipates the energy impacts from directed energy weapon fire and makes the ship endure massive weapons fire even after its shield have been overpowered.
  • Ablative generators, which generate a nearly-impenetrable layer of armor around the hull of the ship.
  • Enhanced, regenerative, redundant, reinforced, multiphasic, multispectrum, unimatrix defensive shields, which protect the ship from energy weapons and torpedoes for an exponentially longer duration and make the ship's hull capable of withstanding extremes of temperature and pressure.
  • Microdiffracted carbon hull coating that absorbs all visible radiation that fell upon it, making it as black as the space it moved through.
  • A sensor stealth system which masks the ship's warp signature and helped avoid detection during covert operations. Custom-designed warp coil insulators reduced its energy signature almost to nil. As long as radio silence was maintained, the ship could cruise unnoticed through the void.

Propulsion capabilities[]

  • Enhanced impulse engines that can attain sub-light velocities of 0.95c and faster-than-light velocities of Warp 1.2 for short bursts, allowing the ship to escape supernovas if the warp drive unexpectedly went offline.
  • An enhanced maneuvering thruster array with retro-thrusters, which exponentially increases the ship's sub-light agility despite its size.
  • A Khronnian enhanced warp drive that allows it to travel at a normal cruise speed of Warp 8.5 and a top sustained speeds of Warp 9.5.
  • A quantum slipstream drive that allows the ship to travel 300 light years in an hour, though in 10 hour bursts every 6 hours only due to the ship's configuration.

Other capabilities[]

Task Force Invincible[]

The USS Atlas was attached to Task Force Invincible, the mobile arm of Coronalis Command and lead task force of the Vanguard Fleet, with headquarters at Station Frontier. Task Force Invincible was under the overall flag command of Admiral Jean-Luc Picard. The USS Atlas was designated as the flagship of Mission Group Bravo and Strike Group Two. As such, the ship featured a flag bridge. It was where Commodore Norodin Khan would command Strike Group Two, or where Morgan Bateson would command Mission Group Bravo as Fleet Captain. The flag bridge was a combination briefing room, operations center and workplace from where a weather eye could be kept on the ships of the task force and on the situation over dozens of star systems covered by it. The flag bridge was dominated by a large, oval holotable, with virtual panes hanging suspended in the air above it and a gesture-sensitive interface. It also had an office area behind glass walls at the far end of the room for the fleet's commander.
