The USS Dauntless was a Katana-class Command Battleship classified as a "super capital starship" in active service to Starfleet during the late 24th century.

Vanguard Command[]
The USS Dauntless was launched from the Utopia Planitia Fleet Yards in 2384 and was commissioned in 2385. It was one of three of its class constructed by Starfleet Corps of Engineers to be attached to the Vanguard Fleet, the mobile arm of Vanguard Command.
As part of Vanguard Command, the USS Dauntless's capabilities included:
Offensive capabilities[]
- Type-XII phaser arrays.
- Mark-XII turreted pulse phaser cannons.
- A full payload of Khronnian enhanced high-yield photon torpedoes, which were almost powerful as quantum torpedoes.
- The capacity to launch quantum torpedoes and transphasic torpedoes, the latter only as a last resort.
- An 40-man Starfleet Commando Force for special away team missions and even black ops mission.
Defensive capabilities[]
- Enhanced and redundant structural integrity fields, which exponentially increased the ship's ability to maintain the integrity and shape of hulls and bulkheads against the extreme stresses caused by warp fields, weapons, and other motion.
- Ablative hull armor, which rapidly dissipates the energy impacts from directed energy weapon fire and makes the ship endure massive weapons fire even after its shield have been overpowered.
- Enhanced, regenerative, redundant, reinforced, multiphasic, multispectrum, unimatrix defensive shields, which protects the ship from energy weapons and torpedoes for an exponentially longer duration and makes the ship's hull capable of withstanding extremes of temperature and pressure.
- Microdiffracted carbon hull coating, which absorbs all visible radiation that fell upon the ship's hull, making it as black as the space it moved through.
- A sensor stealth system, which masked the ship's warp signature and helped avoid detection during covert operations. Custom-designed warp coil insulators reduced its energy signature almost to nil. As long as radio silence was maintained, the ship could cruise unnoticed through interstellar space.
- Advanced external holographic emitters, which give the ship the ability to alter its appearance by disguising itself as another object, such as an asteroid.
Propulsion capabilities[]
- Enhanced impulse engines that can attain sub-light velocities of 0.95c and faster-than-light velocities of Warp 1.2.
- An enhanced maneuvering thruster array with retro-thrusters which exponentially increased the ship's agility despite its size.
- A Khronnian enhanced warp drive that allows it to travel at a normal cruise speed of Warp 8.5 and a top sustained speeds of Warp 9.5.
- A quantum slipstream drive that allows the ship to travel 300 light years in an hour.
Other capabilities[]
- Bio-neural circuitry, which could process information more efficiently, and therefore speed up computer response time.
- Advanced holodecks.
- Industrial replicators that could produce starship parts and standard torpedo components for construction.
- A full Long-term Holographic Program Package composed of:
- 3 Mark-III Long-term Command and Navigation Holograms (LCNH)
- 4 Mark-III Long-term Security and Tactical Holograms (LSTH)
- 6 Mark-III Long-term Engineering Holograms (LEH)
- 3 Mark-IX Long-term Medical Holograms (LMH)
- 3 Mark-III Long-term Health Care Holograms (LHCH)
- 3 Mark-III Long-term Science Holograms (LSH)
Companion ship and auxiliary crafts[]
Docked underneath the dorsal superstructure of the ship was the Defiant-class Tactical Frigate USS Lionheart, on external docking clamps, on the dorsal side of the ship’s sensor primary array. Sharing space with the third fighter wing and the auxiliary crafts on Flight Deck 2 were the Valiant-class Tactical Corvettes USS Machete and the USS Dagger. These ships are the permanent companion ships of the Dauntless.

The USS Dauntless also had the following auxiliary crafts onboard:
- 108 Valkyrie-class advanced tactical flyers
- 4 Venture-class scout ships
- 4 Yellowstone-class runabouts
- 4 Flyer-class heavy shuttlecrafts
- 8 Type-11 medium shuttlecrafts
- 8 Type-9 light shuttlecrafts
Task Force Dauntless[]
The USS Dauntless was assigned to serve as the flagship of Task Force Dauntless, which was the mobile arm of Abraxis Command, the field division of Vanguard Command located in the Gamma Quadrant. It was placed under the command of Vice Admiral Razal Gibran, the concurrent Fleet Commander of Task Force Dauntless and Sector Commander of Abraxis Command. Like the rest of its task force, the ship's headquarters and home base was Station Deep Space Gamma-01, which orbited around Abraxis IV in the Abraxis System.
The whole task force has as its primary area of operations that area of interstellar space controlled by the Alliance of Gamma Quadrant Planets in the Gamma Quadrant and the dozens of star systems around it.
As flagship of Task Force Dauntless, it led 45 other combat-oriented starships during task force formations. As the flagship of Vice Admiral Razal Gibran, its flag bridge also served as the Sector Command hub of Abraxis Command whenever he was onboard. It was a combination briefing room, operations center and workplace from which the he could could keep a weather eye on the ships of the task force and on the situation over dozens of star systems covered by Abraxis Command. The Hub was dominated by a large, oval holotable, with virtual panes hanging suspended in the air above it and a gesture-sensitive interface. It also had an office area behind glass walls at the far end of the room for the Sector Commander.

Condition green[]
During Condition Green, the USS Dauntless was always accompanied by a permanently attached escort complement. Three of which were its companion ships: The USS Lionheart, the USS Machete and the USS Dagger. In addition to these ships, the Merian-class Fast Frigate USS Searcher was permanently attached to the USS Dauntless as an escort ship.

Condition yellow[]
During Condition Yellow, the USS Dauntless serves as lead ship of Mission Group Alpha and was escorted by the Prometheus-class Assault Cruiser USS Gallant, the Intrepid-class Light Cruiser USS Pursuer, the Saber-class Fast Frigates USS Sentinel and USS Protector, the Defiant-class Tactical Frigates USS Lionheart, USS Raging Bull and USS Geronimo, and the Valiant-class Tactical Corvettes USS Machete and USS Dagger.

Special missions[]
During Condition Green, when there was a need for the formation of a battle group, but the squadron formations of the task force were in the middle of their respective missions and could not be formed into mission groups, the USS Dauntless and its companion ships form a temporary battle group with the two RRF starships assigned to Abraxis Command, the Korolev-class Heavy Cruiser USS Rob Roy, the Nova-class Tactical Frigate USS Pulsar and the Diligent-class Tactical Frigate USS Samagar, to take on these critical missions.

The USS Dauntless, the USS Lionheart, the USS Searcher, the USS Machete, and the USS Dagger, with the USS Rob Roy, the USS Pulsar, and the USS Samagar.
On certain occasions, this temporary battle group is reinforced by the Wakizashi-class Destroyer USS Moro and the Nova-class Tactical Frigate USS Eclipse from the Alpha Quadrant to strengthen its ranks.
