Vanguard Command[]

The USS Errant was launched in 2384 from the Coronalis Frontier Fleet Yards and was commissioned in 2385 as part of the Vanguard Fleet, the mobile arm of Vanguard Command.

As part of Vanguard Command, the USS Errant's capabilities included:

Type-XII phaser arrays.
Mark-X pulse phaser cannons.
The capacity to launch quantum torpedoes.
A full payload of Khronnian enhanced high-yield photon torpedoes, which were almost powerful as quantum torpedoes.

Enhanced and redundant structural integrity fields, which exponentially increases the ship's ability to maintain the integrity and shape of hulls and bulkheads against the extreme stresses caused by warp fields, weapons, and other motion.
Ablative hull armor, which rapidly dissipates the energy impacts from directed energy weapon fire.
Ablative generators, which generated a nearly-impenetrable layer of armor around the hull of the ship.
A tritanium and tetraburnium composite alloy hull.
Enhanced, regenerative, redundant, reinforced, multiphasic, multispectrum, unimatrix defensive shields, which protects the ship from energy weapons and torpedoes for an exponentially longer duration and makes the ship's hull capable of withstanding extremes of temperature and pressure.
Microdiffracted carbon hull coating, which absorbs all visible radiation that fell upon it, making it as black as the space it moved through.

A Khronnian enhanced warp drive that allows it to travel at a normal cruise speed of Warp 8.5 and a top sustained speeds of Warp 9.5.

In 2385, the USS Errant was one of six Merian-class Fast Frigates assigned to Task Force Dauntless, the mobile arm of Abraxis Command, operating in the Gamma Quadrant from its sector headquarters at Deep Space Gamma-01. Task Force Dauntless and Abraxis Command were under the overall command of Vice Admiral Razal Gibran. The other ships were the USS Sleuth, the USS Ranger, the USS Searcher, the USS Pilgrim, and the the USS Sojourner.

Under Condition Green, the USS Errant escorted the Intrepid-class Light Cruiser USS Pioneer, together with the Steamrunner-class Heavy Frigate USS Buccaneer.

Under Condition Yellow, the USS Errant was part of Mission Group Charlie led by the Vesta-class Command Cruiser USS Actium, together with the Steamrunner-class Heavy Frigates USS Blackbeard, and USS Hornigold, the Intrepid-class Light Cruiser USS Illion, the Saber-class Tactical Frigates USS Phalanx, and USS Guardian, the Merian-class Fast Frigate USS Searcher, and the Defiant-class Tactical Frigates USS Sitting Bull and USS Logan.
