The USS Inquirer was a Merian-class Fast Frigate in active service to Starfleet during the late 24th century.

Vanguard Command[]

The Inquirer was launched in 2384 from the Coronalis Frontier Fleet Yards and was commissioned in 2385 as part of the Vanguard Fleet, the mobile arm of Vanguard Command.

As part of Vanguard Command, the Inquirer's capabilities included:

Type-XII phaser arrays.
Mark-X pulse phaser cannons.
The capacity to launch quantum torpedoes.
A full payload of Khronnian enhanced high-yield photon torpedoes, which were almost powerful as quantum torpedoes.

Enhanced and redundant structural integrity fields, which exponentially increases the ship's ability to maintain the integrity and shape of hulls and bulkheads against the extreme stresses caused by warp fields, weapons, and other motion.
Ablative hull armor, which rapidly dissipates the energy impacts from directed energy weapon fire.
Ablative generators, which generated a nearly-impenetrable layer of armor around the hull of the ship.
A tritanium and tetraburnium composite alloy hull.
Enhanced, regenerative, redundant, reinforced, multiphasic, multispectrum, unimatrix defensive shields, which protects the ship from energy weapons and torpedoes for an exponentially longer duration and makes the ship's hull capable of withstanding extremes of temperature and pressure.
Microdiffracted carbon hull coating, which absorbs all visible radiation that fell upon it, making it as black as the space it moved through.

Enhanced impulse engines that can attain sub-light velocities of 0.95c and faster-than-light velocities of Warp 1.2.
An enhanced maneuvering thruster array with retro-thrusters which exponentially increased the ship's agility.
A Khronnian enhanced warp drive that allows it to travel at a normal cruise speed of Warp 8.5 and a top sustained speeds of Warp 9.5.
A quantum slipstream drive that allows the ship to travel 300 light years in an hour.

Bio-neural circuitry, which could process information more efficiently, and therefore speed up computer response time.
An advanced holosuite for scientific and engineering uses and for crew recreation.

In 2385, the USS Inquirer was the one of eight Merian-class Fast Frigates assigned to Task Force Viceroy, the mobile arm of Anuva Command, operating in the Delta Quadrant from its sector headquarters at Deep Space Delta-01. Task Force Viceroy and Anuva Command were under the overall command of Vice Admiral Kathryn Janeway.

Under Condition Green, the USS Inquirer escorts the Akira-class Heavy Cruiser USS Shamshir with one Saber-class Fast Frigate.

Under Condition Yellow, the USS Hunter was part of Mission Group Delta led by the Luna-class Heavy Cruiser USS Mimas, together with the Akira-class Heavy Cruiser USS Shamshir, one Prometheus-class Assault Cruiser, one Norway-class Heavy Frigate, one Intrepid-class Light Cruiser, two Merian-class Fast Frigates, two Diligent-class Tactical Frigates, and two Defiant-classTactical Frigates.

Under Condition Red-1, the USS Hunter was part of Strike Group Two, led by the Sovereign-class Command Cruiser USS Adamant, together with the Luna-class Heavy Cruiser USS Mimas, the Akira-class Heavy Cruiser USS Shamshir, two Prometheus-class Assault Cruiser, two Norway-class Heavy Frigates, two Intrepid-class Light Cruisers, four Saber-class Fast Frigates, four Merian-class Fast Frigates, four Diligent-class Tactical Frigates, and four Defiant-class Tactical Frigates.
