The USS Kagoshima (NCC-91855) was a Shi'Kahr-class starship in service to Starfleet in the late 2390s through the 25th century.
History[]
The Kagoshima was part of the first series of 100 Shi'Kahr-class starships constructed. Like her sister ships she was named for a Federation city, in this case Kagoshima, Japan on Earth.
The Kagoshima was launched in 2395 under the command of Commander Alfred Detweiler and assigned to border patrol duty near the Klingon Empire.
In 2398 Detweiler was assigned as part of a task force escorting Federation diplomats engaged in an ultimately unsuccessful attempt to mediate peace talks between the Klingons and the Gorn.
Battle of Vega Colony[]
In 2407 the Kagoshima was part of a Starfleet task force massing in the Vega system for an offensive against the Klingons. A large fleet of Borg vessels suddenly emerged from transwarp and attacked. During the fighting the USS Khitomer was disabled and boarded. Detweiler sent his second shift weapons officer, Lieutenant Junior Grade Kanril Eleya over with a security team.
Ten minutes later the Kagoshima was engaged by a Borg sphere and suffered a direct hit to the bridge, killing Detweiler and most of the command staff instantly. A dozen Borg drones beamed aboard and specifically targeted the ship's surviving officers, killing or assimilating most of them.
As security teams from the Kagoshima and Khitomer fought back and managed to kill the remaining drones aboard both ships, Lieutenant Kanril returned to discover that she was now the seniormost officer remaining alive. With help from Ensign Tesjha Phohl Kanril took command of the ship from the battle bridge and got the ship back underway. As the fleet retreated the Kagoshima rescued several more stricken vessels and helped destroy the Borg cube at the heart of the fleet.
In the battle's aftermath the Kagoshima spent two weeks undergoing repairs at Utopia Planitia Fleet Yards, during which Fleet Admiral Jorel Quinn advanced Kanril to lieutenant and confirmed her as permanent commanding officer.
Third Federation-Klingon War[]
When the repairs were completed Kanril and her crew were deployed to the Klingon front and served with distinction in multiple sorties against the Klingon Defense Force.
In September of that year Kanril rescued a party of Federation diplomats and Lieutenant Miral Paris in the Alpha Leonis system. She was promoted to lieutenant commander and offered command of the USS John Paul Jones. Lieutenant Commander Direk Athazi replaced her as CO.

By December 2409 the Kagoshima was under the command of Lieutenant Commander Hal Rehnquist. The ship was reassigned to the Beta Ursae Fleet Area along with the USS Bajor and John Paul Jones.
