The USS Parallax is a New Orleans-class Heavy Frigate in active service to Starfleet during the middle to late 24th century.
The USS Parallax was launched from Utopia Planitia Fleet Yards in 2350, and was commissioned in 2351.
On 2356, it was placed under the command of Captain Razal Gibran. It was commanded by Gibran until 2360.

Vanguard Command[]
The USS Parallax was taken out of border patrol duty in 2384 and underwent an extensive internal refit, hull upgrade and space frame modification at the Coronalis Frontier Fleet Yards. It was recommissioned in 2385, keeping its name, and was assigned to the rapid reaction force of Vanguard Command.
The USS Parallax subsequently received the following upgrades:
Offensive capabilities[]
- Type-XII collimated phaser arrays.
- A bigger payload of Khronnian enhanced high-yield photon torpedoes, which were almost powerful as quantum torpedoes.
- The capacity to launch enhanced quantum torpedoes and transphasic torpedoes, the latter only as a last resort.
- A 10-man Starfleet Commando Force for special away team missions and even black ops mission.
- A newer complement of enhanced auxiliary crafts, including a scout ship, two tactical flyers, and one flyer-class heavy shuttlecraft.
Defensive Capabilities[]
- Ablative hull armor which rapidly dissipates the energy impacts from directed energy weapon fire.
- Enhanced, regenerative, redundant, and reinforced multi-phasic, multispectrum, unimatrix defensive shields, which protect the ship from energy weapons and torpedoes for an exponentially longer duration and make the ship's hull capable of withstanding extremes of temperature and pressure.
- Microdiffracted carbon hull coating that absorbs all visible radiation that fell upon it, making it as black as the space it moved through.
- A sensor stealth system which masks the ship's warp signature and help avoid detection during covert operations. Custom-designed warp coil insulators reduced its energy signature almost to nil. As long as radio silence was maintained, the ship could cruise unnoticed through the void.
- Advanced external holographic emitters, which give the ship the ability to alter its appearance by disguising itself as another object, such as an asteroid.
Propulsion system[]
- Enhanced and redundant structural integrity fields, which exponentially increase the ship's ability to maintain the integrity and shape of hulls and bulkheads against the extreme stresses caused by warp fields, weapons, and other motion.
- Enhanced impulse engines that can attain sub-light velocities of 0.95c and faster-than-light speeds of Warp 1.2 for short bursts.
- An enhanced maneuvering thruster array with retro-thrusters which exponentially increase the ship's agility despite its size.
- A Khronnian enhanced warp drive that allows it to travel at a normal cruise speed of Warp 8.5, and a top sustained speed of Warp 9.5.
- A quantum slipstream drive that allows the ship to travel 300 light years in an hour, though in two hour bursts every 6 hours due to the ship's configuration.
Other capabilities[]
- More powerful and advanced computer cores.
- More powerful and additional fusion reactors.
- Bio-neural circuitry, which could process information more efficiently, and therefore speed up computer response time.
- An astrometrics lab and a stellar cartography department for charting stars, planets, nebulae, and other stellar bodies and for communications purposes or even as a workplace for easy access to sensor information.
- An Akira-class bridge layout.
- Sovereign-class type crew accommodations and facilities.
- Higher automation requiring lesser crew (from 550 to 300).
- A compact Industrial replicator that could produce starship parts for repair and standard torpedo components for construction.
- Tractor rigs, which enhance tractor beam strength by tethering the tractor beams to probes that could be attached to other objects, such as other starships.
- A full Long-term Holographic Program Package composed of:
- 1 Mark-I Long-term Command and Navigation Holograms (LCNH)
- 1 Mark-I Long-term Security and Tactical Holograms (LSTH)
- 2 Mark-I Long-term Engineering Holograms (LEH)
- 1 Mark-II Long-term Medical Holograms (LMH)

Auxiliary crafts[]
The USS Parallax has an auxiliary craft complement composed of:
- 1 modified Venture-class scout ship
- 1 modified Flyer-class heavy shuttlecrafts
- 2 modified Valkyrie-class advanced tactical flyers
- 2 Type-11 medium shuttlecrafts
- 4 Type-9 light shuttlecrafts
With all these enhancements, the USS Parallax was even more powerful overall than a standard Galaxy-class Command Cruiser.
Rapid Reaction Force[]
As part of the Rapid Reaction Force, the USS Parallax was assigned to Anuva Command to respond to looming crisis situations anywhere within its AOR, or for diplomatic missions: shipping ambassadors, admirals and other high-ranking dignitaries from world to world. It was one of three starships of the RRF that had Station DSD1 as home port. The other ships were the Nova-class Tactical Frigate USS Perigee and the Diligent-class Tactical Frigate USS Nogai.
While the USS Parallax would usually take on missions to explored territories far outside of the defined borders of the Coalition of Delta Quadrant Races, the USS Perigee and the USS Nogai would respond to crises within the Coalition or to star systems that are immediately adjacent to it. On a few situations, however, they would team up on missions that require more than one starship to accomplish, particularly political flashpoints.
If the mission did not require the mission groups or strike groups of Task Force Viceroy, or an intimidating, heavy hitting starship like the Odyssey-class Command Battleship USS Audacious, but a powerful enough starship that can do the job but that was less conspicuous, the USS Parallax was one of the alternative choices of Anuva Command, together with the USS Perigee and the USS Nogai.

The USS Parallax was one of the RRF starships that were deployed to escort and protect the USS Orpheus in its missions supporting Anuva Command in the Delta Quadrant.

During Condition Green, when there was a need for the formation of a battle group, but the squadron formations of the task force were in the middle of their respective missions and could not be formed into mission groups, the USS Viceroy and its companion ships would form a temporary battle group with the USS Parallax, the USS Perigee and the USS Nogai, to take on these critical missions.

On certain occasions, this temporary battle group is reinforced by the Wakizashi-class Destroyer USS Moro and the Nova-class Tactical Frigate USS Eclipse from the Alpha Quadrant to strengthen its ranks.

On other occasions, the USS Parallax, the USS Perigee, and the USS Nogai would team up to escort the alternate flagship of Task Force Viceroy, the Odyssey-class Command Battleship USS Audacious, on high profile missions.
