The USS Perseverance was a Vesta-class Command Cruiser in active service to Starfleet during the late 24th century.

The Vesta class Command Cruiser USS Perseverance.
Vanguard Command[]
The USS Perseverance was launched on 2384 from Coronalis Frontier Fleet Yards and commissioned on 2385. The ship was among those constructed specifically for attachment to the Vanguard Fleet, the mobile arm of Vanguard Command.
As part of Vanguard Command, the USS Perseverance's capabilities included:
Offensive capabilities[]
- Type-XII phaser arrays.
- Mark-XII pulse phaser cannons.
- A full payload of Khronnian enhanced high-yield photon torpedoes, which were almost powerful as standard quantum torpedoes.
- The capacity to launch quantum torpedoes and transphasic torpedoes, the latter only as a last resort.
- An Achilles-type quantum micro-torpedo launcher array on the dorsal side of the hull, which allows the ship to fire at multiple targets while focusing its main arsenal on a main target.
- A diverse and combat-modified complement of auxiliary crafts.
- A 10-man Starfleet Commando Force for special away team missions and even black ops mission.
Defensive capabilities[]
- Transporter-welded duranium/tritanium alloy space frame that allows the ship to withstand extreme combat and propulsion stresses.
- Enhanced and redundant structural integrity fields, which exponentially increase the ship's ability to maintain the integrity and shape of hulls and bulkheads against the extreme stresses caused by warp fields, weapons, and other motion.
- Ablative hull armor, which rapidly dissipates the energy impacts from directed energy weapon fire and makes the ship endure massive weapons fire even after its shield have been overpowered.
- Ablative generators, which generate a nearly-impenetrable layer of armor around the hull of the ship.
- Enhanced, regenerative, redundant, reinforced, multiphasic, multispectrum, unimatrix defensive shields, which protect the ship from energy weapons and torpedoes for an exponentially longer duration and makes the ship's hull capable of withstanding extremes of temperature and pressure.
- Microdiffracted carbon hull coating that absorbs all visible radiation that fell upon it, making it as black as the space it moved through.
- A sensor stealth system which masks the ship's warp signature and helps avoid detection during covert operations. Custom-designed warp coil insulators reduced its energy signature almost to nil. As long as radio silence was maintained, the ship could cruise unnoticed through interstellar space.
- Advanced external holographic emitters, which give the ship the ability to alter its appearance by disguising itself as another object, such as an asteroid.
Propulsion capabilities[]
- Enhanced impulse engines that can attain sub-light velocities of 0.95c and faster-than-light velocities of Warp 1.2 in short bursts, allowing the ship to escape supernovas if the warp drive would unexpectedly go offline.
- An enhanced maneuvering thruster array with retro-thrusters, which exponentially increases the ship's sub-light agility despite its size.
- A Khronnian enhanced warp drive that allows it to travel at a normal cruise speed of Warp 8.5 and a top sustained speed of Warp 9.5.
- A quantum slipstream drive that allows the ship to travel 300 light years in an hour.
Other capabilities[]
- More powerful and additional fusion reactors.
- More powerful and advanced computer cores.
- Bio-neural circuitry, which could process information more efficiently, and therefore speed up computer response time.
- Advanced holodecks for scientific and engineering research and for crew recreation.
- An artificial intelligence computer system with its own personality.
- An Industrial replicator that could produce starship parts for repair and standard torpedo components for construction.
- tractor rigs, which enhance tractor beam strength by tethering the tractor beams to probes that could be attached to other objects, such as other starships.
- A full Long-term Holographic Program Package composed of:
- 2 Mark-I Long-term Command and Navigation Holograms (LCNH)
- 3 Mark-I Long-term Security and Tactical Holograms (LSTH); 1 Hirogen, 1 Gorn, 1 Pahkwa-thanh
- 3 Mark-I Long-term Engineering Holograms (LEH)
- 2 Mark-II Long-term Medical Holograms (LMH)
- 2 Mark-I Long-term Health Care Holograms (LHCH)
- 2 Mark-I Long-term Science Holograms (LSH)
The USS Perseverance was also provided with the following extensively modified support and auxiliary crafts as force multipliers:
- A Valiant-class Tactical Corvette, the USS Tomahawk that can dock with the USS Perseverance through external ventral docking clamps
- One combat-modified Venture-class scout ship, the USS Wingclaw
- One specially modified Yellowstone-class runabout, the USS Kruger
- Two Valkyrie-class advanced tactical flyers
Task Force Perseverance[]
As of 2385 the USS Perseverance served as the flagship of Task Force Perseverance, under the direct and flag command of Rear Admiral Adnan Kaplan.
The USS Perseverance and the rest of the ships of Task Force Perseverance functioned as the special expeditionary force Task Force Dauntless, the mobile arm of Abraxis Command, operating in the Gamma Quadrant from its hedquarters and home port, Deep Space Gamma-01, located just beyond the Chamra Vortex from the Bajoran wormhole's far end. Task Force Dauntless and Abraxis Command were under and overall command of Vice Admiral Razal Gibran.

The mission of the ship and the task force was to explore that part of unknown space in the Gamma Quadrant going towards the boundaries of the Alpha Quadrant.
As the flagship of Rear Admiral Adnan Kaplan, one of the observation galleries of the ship on the dorsal surface of its primary hull was refitted to serve as the task force commander's office. It was a rectangular compartment that served as a combination briefing room, operations center and workplace from which the flag officer could keep a weather eye on the ships of the task force and their movements deep in the Gamma Quadrant. It was dominated by a large, oval holotable, with virtual panes hanging suspended in the air above it and a gesture-sensitive interface. It also had an office area behind glass walls at the far end of the room.
Condition green[]
Under Condition Green, the USS Perseverance would travel with the Steamrunner-class Heavy Frigate USS Hatamoto.

Condition yellow[]
Under Condition Yellow, the USS Perseverance would serve as the flagship of Mission Group Alpha, which was composed of the Akira-class Heavy Frigate USS Tsurugi, the Norway-class Heavy Frigate USS Lotharingia, the Intrepid-class Light Cruiser USS Moribus, and the Saber-class Fast Frigate USS Tori Tanto.

Condition red[]
Under Condition Red-1, the USS Perseverance would serve as the flagship of Strike Group One, which was composed of the Luna-class Heavy Cruiser USS Kratos, the Akira-class Heavy Frigate USS Tsurugi, the Prometheus-class Assault Cruiser USS Kheshig, and the Steamrunner-class Heavy Frigate USS Hatamoto.

Companion ship and auxiliary crafts[]
Due to its special mission, the USS Perseverance was installed with a set of external docking clamp at its far ventral aft portion to allow its permanent companion ship, the Valiant-class Tactical Corvette USS Tomahawk to lock on to it and travel along at quantum slipstream velocities. The 12-person crew of the Tomahawk was drawn from the crew of the Perseverance.
The USS Perseverance was also provided with one combat-modified Venture-class scout ship, the USS Wingclaw for independent planetary and cultural research surveys, military reconnaissance, aerial intelligence, and ground assaults.
The four Yellowstone-class runabouts attached to the Perseverance were:
- The USS Kruger
- The USS Katmai
- The USS Verunga
- The USS Kunlun
The USS Perseverance also had the following auxiliary crafts onboard:
- Two Flyer-class heavy shuttlecrafts
- Two Valkyrie-class advanced tactical flyers
- Four Type-11 shuttlecrafts
- Six Type-9 shuttlecrafts
Special missions[]
On occasions, when the Saber-class Fast Frigate USS Tori Tanto was required to accompany the USS Perseverance and Strike Group One of the task force, the USS Katmai and the USS Kruger join the USS Tomahawk in replacing the former as part of the protective escort of the Hephaestus-class Support Carrier USS Hephaestus in a rear position, far from the frontline.
On several occasions, the Korolev-class Heavy Cruiser USS Rob Roy would come to the assistance of the USS Perseverance, deep into the Gamma Quadrant.
