The USS Scout was a Merian-class Fast Frigate in active service in the late 24th century. The ship was among those constructed specifically for attachment to Vanguard Command and the Vanguard Fleet.

Vanguard Command[]

The USS Scout was launched in 2384 from the Coronalis Frontier Fleet Yards and was commissioned in 2385 as part of the Vanguard Fleet, the mobile arm of Vanguard Command.

As part of Vanguard Command, the USS Scout's capabilities included:

Type-XII phaser arrays.
Mark-X pulse phaser cannons.
The capacity to launch quantum torpedoes.
A full payload of Khronnian enhanced high-yield photon torpedoes, which were almost powerful as quantum torpedoes.

Enhanced and redundant structural integrity fields, which exponentially increases the ship's ability to maintain the integrity and shape of hulls and bulkheads against the extreme stresses caused by warp fields, weapons, and other motion.
Ablative hull armor, which rapidly dissipates the energy impacts from directed energy weapon fire.
Ablative generators, which generated a nearly-impenetrable layer of armor around the hull of the ship.
A tritanium and tetraburnium composite alloy hull.
Enhanced, regenerative, redundant, reinforced, multiphasic, multispectrum, unimatrix defensive shields, which protects the ship from energy weapons and torpedoes for an exponentially longer duration and makes the ship's hull capable of withstanding extremes of temperature and pressure.
Microdiffracted carbon hull coating, which absorbs all visible radiation that fell upon it, making it as black as the space it moved through.
A sensor stealth system, which masked the ship's warp signature and helped avoid detection during covert operations. Custom-designed warp coil insulators reduced its energy signature almost to zero. As long as radio silence was maintained, the ship could cruise unnoticed through interstellar space.

Enhanced impulse engines that can attain sub-light velocities of 0.95c and faster-than-light velocities of Warp 1.2.
An enhanced maneuvering thruster array with retro-thrusters which exponentially increased the ship's agility.
A Khronnian enhanced warp drive that allows it to travel at a normal cruise speed of Warp 8.5 and a top sustained speeds of Warp 9.5.
A quantum slipstream drive that allows the ship to travel 300 light years in an hour.

In 2385, the USS Scout was the one of eight Merian-class Fast Frigates assigned to Task Force Viceroy, the mobile arm of Anuva Command, operating in the Delta Quadrant from its sector headquarters at Deep Space Delta-01. Task Force Viceroy and Anuva Command were under the overall command of Vice Admiral Kathryn Janeway.

Under Condition Green, the USS Scout would escort the Akira-class Heavy Cruiser USS Rapier with one Saber-class Fast Frigate.

Under Condition Yellow, the USS Scout was part of Mission Group Alpha led by the Jupiter-class Fleet Carrier USS Viceroy together with the Akira-class Heavy Cruiser USS Rapier, two Saber-class Fast Frigates, one other Merian-class Fast Frigate, two Diligent-class Tactical Frigates, two Defiant-class Tactical Frigates, and four Valiant-class Tactical Corvettes.

Under Condition Red-1, the USS Scout was part of Strike Group One, also led by the USS Viceroy, together with the Luna-class Heavy Cruiser USS Telesto, the Akira-class Heavy Cruisers USS Rapier and USS Cutlass, one Prometheus-class Assault Cruiser, one Norway-class Heavy Frigate, one Intrepid-class Light Cruiser, six Saber-class Fast Frigates, three other Merian-class Fast Frigates, six Defiant-class Tactical Frigates, and four Valiant-class Tactical Corvettes.
