The USS Tachi is a Steamrunner-class Heavy Frigate in service with Starfleet during the late 24th century.

The Steamrunner class Heavy Frigate USS Tachi.
Vanguard Command[]
The USS Tachi was launched from the Coronalis Frontier Fleet Yards in 2384 and was commissioned in 2385 as part of the Vanguard Fleet, the mobile arm of Vanguard Command. It was placed under the command of Captain Jarod-Mora, a young male Grazerite Starfleet officer.
As part of Vanguard Command, the USS Tachi's capabilities included:
Offensive capabilities[]
- Type-XII phaser arrays.
- Mark-X pulse phaser cannons.
- The capacity to launch quantum torpedoes and transphasic torpedoes, the latter only as a last resort.
- A full payload of Khronnian enhanced high-yield photon torpedoes, which were almost powerful as standard quantum torpedoes.
Defensive capabilities[]
- Ablative hull armor, which rapidly dissipates the energy impacts from directed energy weapon fire and makes the ship endure massive weapons fire even after its shield have been overpowered.
- Ablative generators, which generated a nearly-impenetrable layer of armor around the hull of the ship.
- Enhanced, regenerative, redundant, reinforced, multiphasic, multispectrum, unimatrix defensive shields, which protects the ship from energy weapons and torpedoes for an exponentially longer duration and makes the ship's hull capable of withstanding extremes of temperature and pressure.
- Microdiffracted carbon hull coating that absorbs all visible radiation that fell upon it, making it as black as the space it moved through.
- A sensor stealth system, which masked the ship's warp signature and helped avoid detection during covert operations. Custom-designed warp coil insulators reduced its energy signature almost to nil. As long as radio silence was maintained, the ship could cruise unnoticed through interstellar space.
- Advanced external holographic emitters, which give the ship the ability to alter its appearance by disguising itself as another object, such as an asteroid.
Propulsion capabilities[]
- Enhanced impulse engines, which can attain sub-light velocities of 0.95c and faster-than-light velocities of Warp 1.2, allowing the ship to escape supernovas if the warp drive unexpectedly goes offline.
- An enhanced maneuvering thruster array with retro-thrusters, which exponentially increased the ship's sub-light agility despite its size.
- A Khronnian enhanced warp drive, which allows the ship to travel at a normal cruise speed of Warp 8.5 and a top sustained speed of Warp 9.5.
- A quantum slipstream drive, which allows the ship to travel 300 light years in an hour.
Other capabilities[]
- Bio-neural circuitry , which could process information more efficiently, and therefore speed up computer response time.
- An advanced holodecks for scientific and engineeering research and for crew recreation.
- A compact Industrial replicator, which could produce starship parts for repair and standard torpedo components for construction.
- Tractor rigs, which enhanced tractor beam strength by tethering the tractor beams to probes that could be attached to other objects, such as starships.
- A full Long-term Holographic Program Package composed of:
- 1 Mark-III Long-term Command and Navigation Holograms (LCNH)
- 1 Mark-III Long-term Security and Tactical Holograms (LSTH); 1 Gorn
- 1 Mark-III Long-term Engineering Holograms (LEH)
- 1 Mark-IX Long-term Medical Holograms (LMH)
- 1 Mark-III Long-term Science Holograms (LSH)
Task Force Resilient[]
As of 2385 the USS Tachi was attached to Task Force Resilient, the personal task force of Fleet Admiral Maximus Hunter and Admiral John Blackbull in their capacity as Fleet Commander and Deputy Fleet Commander of the Vanguard Fleet, respectively.
The USS Tachi was commanded by Captain Jarod-Mora, a male Grazerite. Like the rest of the ships of Task Force Resilient, the USS Tachi has Frontier 2 as its home port.
The specific role of the USS Tachi in the task force was to act as one of the forward or rear-screen ships of the flagship, the Achilles-class Battle Cruiser USS Resilient, or of the alternate flagship, the Prometheus-class Assault Cruiser USS Ticonderoga.

Task Force Resilient.
Whenever Admiral Blackbull was required to travel while Admiral Hunter remained on Station Frontier, or when both he and Admiral Hunter needed to travel, the task force was split in half, with Blackbull travelling onboard the Prometheus-class Assault Cruiser USS Ticonderoga, and with the USS Tachi, the Wakizashi-class Destroyer USS Sipahi and the Defiant-class Tactical Frigate USS Osceola escorting. This was the minimum ship formation permitted for Admiral Blackbull to travel with, either onboard the Ticonderoga or on other starships.

The USS Ticonderoga escorted by the USS Tachi, the USS Sipahi, and the USS Osceola.
