The USS Tau (NCC-1871-D) was an modified Federation Prometheus-class battleship in service in the late 24th century and the direct successor of the USS Tau-C. The Tau was under the command of Captain Julius E. Olson.
In 2381 during the Borg invasion, the Tau protected Starbase 74 from a Borg attack.
Secret mission and devices[]
One year after the completion of the ship, the Corps of Engineers upgraded the Tau with six phaser cannons and three torpedo rooms.
However, the most important advancement was the secretly installed quantum slipstream drive, which could only be activated by the Captain on the bridge. All upgrades were installed for one mission: to stop the top secret project called "NX-93091", if ever anyone should steal the dangerous instrument of doom.
