The USS Tsurugi was an Akira-class Heavy Cruiser in active service to Starfleet during the late 24th century.
Vanguard Command[]
The USS Tsurugi was launched from San Francisco Fleet Yards in 2384 and was commissioned in 2385 as part of the Vanguard FleetVanguard Command.
As part of Vanguard Command, the USS Tsurugi's capabilities included:
Offensive capabilities[]
- Type-XII phaser arrays.
- A bigger payload of Khronnian enhanced high-yield photon torpedoes, which were almost powerful as quantum torpedoes.
- The capacity to launch quantum torpedoes and transphasic torpedoes, the latter only as a last resort.
- A hybrid weapons-sensors mission pod that provides an additional 5 Type-XII collimated phaser arrays and 4 variable-use torpedo launchers to its onboard armament.
Defensive capabilities[]
- Enhanced and redundant structural integrity fields, which exponentially increased the ship's ability to maintain the integrity and shape of hulls and bulkheads against the extreme stresses caused by warp fields, weapons, and other motion.
- Ablative hull armor, which rapidly dissipates the energy impacts from directed energy weapon fire and makes the ship endure massive weapons fire even after its shield have been overpowered.
- Ablative generators, which generated a nearly-impenetrable layer of armor around the hull of the ship.
- Enhanced, regenerative, redundant, reinforced, multiphasic, multispectrum, unimatrix defensive shields, which protects the ship from energy weapons and torpedoes for an exponentially longer duration and makes the ship's hull capable of withstanding extremes of temperature and pressure.
- Microdiffracted carbon hull coating that absorbs all visible radiation that fell upon it, making it as black as the space it moved through.
- A sensor stealth system, which masked the ship's warp signature and helped avoid detection during covert operations. Custom-designed warp coil insulators reduced its energy signature almost to nil. As long as radio silence was maintained, the ship could cruise unnoticed through interstellar space.
Propulsion capabilities[]
- Enhanced impulse engines that can attain sub-light velocities of 0.95c and faster-than-light velocities of Warp 1.2, at "super impulse" bursts, allowing the ship to escape supernovas if the warp drive unexpectedly goes offline.
- An enhanced maneuvering thruster array with retro-thrusters which exponentially increased the ship's agility despite its size.
- A Khronnian enhanced warp drive that allows it to travel at a normal cruise speed of Warp 8.5 and a top sustained speeds of Warp 9.5.
- A quantum slipstream drive that allows the ship to travel 300 light years in an hour, in 10 hour bursts every 6 hours.
Other capabilities[]
- Bio-neural circuitry, which could process information more efficiently, and therefore speed up computer response time.
- Advanced holodecks for scientific and engineering research and for crew recreation.
- An Industrial replicator that could produce starship parts and standard torpedo components for construction.
- A full Long-term Holographic Program Package composed of:
- 1 Mark-III Long-term Command and Navigation Hologram (LCNH)
- 1 Mark-III Long-term Security and Tactical Hologram (LSTH); 1 Hirogen
- 2 Mark-III Long-term Engineering Holograms (LEH)
- 1 Mark-IX Long-term Medical Hologram (LMH)
- 1 Mark-III Long-term Health Care Hologram (LHCH)
- 1 Mark-III Long-term Science Hologram (LSH)
Auxiliary crafts[]
The USS Tsurugi has an auxiliary craft complement composed of:
- 36 Valkyrie-class advanced tactical flyers
- One Venture-class scout ship
- Two Yellowstone-class runabouts
- Four Flyer-class heavy shuttlecrafts
- Six Type-11 medium shuttlecrafts
- Four Type-9 light shuttlecrafts
Task Force Perseverance[]
As of 2385, the USS Tsurugi was attached to Task Force Perseverance, , under the flag command of Rear Admiral Adnan Kaplan. Task Force Perseverance was the special expeditionary force of Task Force Dauntless, the mobile arm of Abraxis Command, operating in the Gamma Quadrant from its headquarters at Deep Space Gamma-01, located several light years "behind" the aperture of the Bajoran wormhole from that end. Task Force Dauntless and Abraxis Command were under the overall flag command of Vice Admiral Razal Gibran.
Condition green[]
Under Condition Green, the USS Tsurugi was accompanied by the Merian-class Fast Frigate USS Bohr.
Condition yellow[]
Under Condition Yellow, the USS Tsurugi was part of Mission Group Alpha, which was led by the flagship of the task force, the Vesta-class Command Cruiser USS Perseverance, together with the Norway-class Heavy Frigate USS Lotharingia, the Intrepid-class Light Cruiser USS Moribus, and the Saber-class Fast Frigate USS Tori Tanto.
Condition red[]
Under Condition Red-1, the USS Tsurugi was part of Strike Group One, which was also led by USS Perseverance, together with the Prometheus-class Assault Cruiser USS Kheshig, the Luna-class Heavy Cruiser USS Kratos, and the Steamrunner-class Heavy Frigate USS Hatamoto.
