The USS Tuareg was a Nomad-class Battle Cruiser in active service to Starfleet during the late 24th century. It was the second ship built of its class.

The Nomad class Battle Cruiser USS Tuareg.
Vanguard Command[]
The USS Tuareg was launched on 2384 from the Coronalis Frontier Fleet Yards and was commissioned on 2385. It was one of ten Nomad-class Battle Cruisers assigned to the Vanguard Fleet, the mobile arm of Vanguard Command.
As part of Vanguard Command, the USS Tuareg's capabilities included:
Offensive capabilities[]
- 16 collimated Type-XII phaser arrays.
- 6 Mark-XII pulse phaser cannons.
- A full payload of Khronnian enhanced high-yield photon torpedoes, which were almost powerful as standard quantum torpedoes.
- The capacity to launch quantum torpedoes and transphasic torpedoes, the latter only as a last resort.
- A diverse and combat-modified complement of auxiliary crafts.
- A 20-man Starfleet Commando Force for special away team missions and even black ops mission.
Defensive capabilities[]
- Enhanced and redundant structural integrity fields, which exponentially increased the ship's ability to maintain the integrity and shape of hulls and bulkheads against the extreme stresses caused by warp fields, weapons, and other motion.
- Ablative hull armor, which rapidly dissipates the energy impacts from directed energy weapon fire and makes the ship endure massive weapons fire even after its shield have been overpowered.
- Ablative generators, which generated a nearly-impenetrable layer of armor around the hull of the ship.
- Enhanced, regenerative, redundant, reinforced, multiphasic, multispectrum, unimatrix defensive shields, which protects the ship from energy weapons and torpedoes for an exponentially longer duration and makes the ship's hull capable of withstanding extremes of temperature and pressure.
- Microdiffracted carbon hull coating that absorbs all visible radiation that fell upon it, making it as black as the space it moved through.
- A sensor stealth system which masked the ship's warp signature and helped avoid detection during covert operations. Custom-designed warp coil insulators reduced its energy signature almost to nil. As long as radio silence was maintained, the ship could cruise unnoticed through interstellar space.
Propulsion capabilities[]
- Enhanced impulse engines that can attain sub-light velocities of 0.95c and faster-than-light velocities of Warp 1.2, allowing the ship to escape supernovas if the warp drive unexpectedly goes offline.
- An enhanced maneuvering thruster array with retro-thrusters, which exponentially increased the ship's sub-light agility despite its size.
- A Khronnian enhanced warp drive that allows it to travel at a normal cruise speed of Warp 8.5 and a top sustained speed of Warp 9.5.
- A quantum slipstream drive that allows the ship to travel 300 light years in an hour.
Other capabilities[]
- Bio-neural circuitry, which could process information more efficiently, and therefore speed up computer response time.
- Advanced holodecks for scientific and engineering research and for crew recreation.
- An Industrial replicator that could produce starship parts for repair and standard torpedo components for construction.
- A full Long-term Holographic Program Package composed of:
- 2 Mark-I Long-term Command and Navigation Holograms (LCNH)
- 2 Mark-I Long-term Security and Tactical Holograms (LSTH)
- 2 Mark-I Long-term Engineering Holograms (LEH)
- 2 Mark-II Long-term Medical Holograms (LMH)
- 2 Mark-I Long-term Health Care Holograms (LHCH)
- 1 Mark-I Long-term Science Hologram (LSH)
Auxiliary crafts[]
The USS Tuareg has an embarked primary auxiliary craft complement composed of:
- One Captain's Yacht
- Two Venture-class scout ships
- Two Yellowstone-class runabouts
- Two Valkyrie-class advanced tactical flyers
- Four Type-11 medium shuttlecrafts
- Four Type-9 light shuttlecrafts
Rapid Reaction Force[]
The USS Tuareg was one of the six most powerful starships assigned to Abraxis Command and was one of two capital ships from the Rapid Reaction Force of Vanguard Command assigned to it. The other starship was the Ronin-class Battle Cruiser USS Apex.

The alternate flagship of Task Force Dauntless, the Odyssey class Command Battleship USS Implacable, the Ronin class Battle Cruiser USS Apex, and the Nomad class Battle Cruiser USS Tuareg.
The starships of the RRF assigned to Abraxis Command are:
- The Nomad-class Battle Cruiser USS Tuareg
- The Ronin-class Battle Cruiser USS Apex
- The Korolev-class Heavy Cruiser USS Rob Roy
- The Nova-class Tactical Frigate USS Pulsar
- The Diligent-class Tactical Frigate USS Samagar

The starships of the Rapid Reaction Force assigned to Abraxis Command.
These ships operate from out of Deep Space Gamma-01.
The USS Tuareg would mostly operate on solitary missions within the Abraxis Command's area of responsibility for:
- Crisis prevention and response
- Interdiction against hotile elements
- Overall rapid response
- Diplomatic and courier missions, including:
- Ferrying ambassadors of Abraxis Command to any world in the Gamma Quadrant within or adjacent to the Alliance of Gamma Quadrant Planets
- Transporting Vice Admiral Razal Gibran from the USS Dauntless to Deep Space Gamma-01, the USS Implacable (NX-97003), any of the five Fort-class sub-stations of Abraxis Command, or other destinations
- Transporting the other flag officers and dignitaries of Abraxis Command from one point to another during high alert situations.
Special missions[]
The USS Tuareg and its captain were entrusted with some of the most challenging and most important single-missions that were usually assigned to flagships.
On very rare occasions, when a combination of firepower and diplomacy is required in a mission, the USS Tuareg would pair up with the alternate flagship of Task Force Dauntless, the Odyssey-class Command Battleship USS Implacable to complete it.

On other occasions, when less-than-high profile diplomacy with firepower is required, the USS Tuareg would pair up with the other RRL Battle Cruiser of Abraxis Command, the Ronin-class Battle Cruiser USS Apex, to complete it.

Also, the USS Tuareg alternates with the USS Apex in teaming up with the rest of the RRL starships attached to Abraxis Command, the Korolev-class Heavy Cruiser USS Rob Roy, the Nova-class Tactical Frigate USS Pulsar, and the Diligent-class Tactical Frigate USS Samagar on special missions that require a small battle group to complete.
