The USS Zhukov was an Ambassador III-class Heavy Cruiser variant in the service of Starfleet originally deployed for long range exploration mission in the early 24th century.

History[]

In 2347, newly promoted Lieutenant junior grade Razal Gibran was transferred to the USS Zhukov as its Conn Officer.

In 2348, Ensign Thomas Morgan, freshly graduated from Starfleet Academy, came onboard as Beta Shift Conn Officer, where he met and became fast friends with Gibran.

Vanguard Command[]

The USS Zhukov was taken out of moth ball in 2384 and underwent an extensive internal refit and modification at the Coronalis Frontier Fleet Yards. It was recommissioned in 2385, keeping its name, and was one of twelve Ambassador III-class Heavy Cruisers assigned to the rapid reaction force of Vanguard Command.

Ship features and capabilities[]

The USS Zhukov and the other Ambassador III-class heavy cruisers assigned to Vanguard Command had received the following internal reefits, hull modifications and space frame upgrades:

Offensive capabilities[]

Defensive capabilities[]

  • Enhanced and redundant structural integrity fields, which exponentially increase the ship's ability to maintain the integrity and shape of hulls and bulkheads against the extreme stresses caused by warp fields, weapons, and other motion.
  • Redundant and regenerative ablative hull armor, which rapidly dissipates the energy impacts from directed energy weapon fire and makes the ship endure massive weapons fire even after its shield have been overpowered.
  • Enhanced, regenerative, redundant, reinforced, multiphasic, multispectrum unimatrix defensive shields, which protect the ship from energy weapons and torpedoes for an exponentially longer duration and make the ship's hull capable of withstanding extremes of temperature and pressure.
  • Microdiffracted carbon hull coating that absorbs all visible radiation that fell upon it, making it as black as the space it moved through.
  • A sensor stealth system which masks the ship's warp signature and helped avoid detection during covert operations. Custom-designed warp coil insulators reduced its energy signature almost to nil. As long as radio silence was maintained, the ship could cruise unnoticed through interstellar space.
  • Advanced external holographic emitters, which give the ship the ability to alter its appearance by disguising itself as another object, such as an asteroid.

Propulsion capabilities[]

  • A Khronnian enhanced warp drive that allows it to travel at a normal cruise speed of Warp 8.5 and a top sustained speeds of Warp 9.5.
  • A quantum slipstream drive that allows the ship to travel 300 light years in an hour, though in two hour bursts every 6 hours due to the ship's tall and wide configuration.
  • A Class-7 secondary warp core, which allows the ship to travel at a cruising speed of warp 6 while the primary warp core was offline.
  • Enhanced impulse engines that can attain sub-light velocities of 0.95c.
  • An enhanced maneuvering thruster array with retro-thrusters which exponentially increased the ship's agility despite its size.

Other capabilities[]

Auxiliary crafts[]

The USS Victor boast an auxiliary craft complement composed of the following:

With all these enhancements, the USS Zhukov was even more powerful overall than a standard Galaxy-class Command Cruiser.

Rapid Reaction Force[]

The USS Zhukov was assigned to Deep Space 9 II as one of two starships of the Rapid Reaction Force attached to Denorios Command. The other ship was the Diligent-class Tactical Frigate USS Tughril.

While the USS Zhukov would usually take on missions to explored territories outside of the defined AOR of Denorios Command, the USS Tughril would respond to crises within the AOR or to star systems that are immediately adjacent to it. On a few situations, however, they would team up on missions that require more than one starship to accomplish, particularly political flashpoints.

If the mission did not require the mission groups or strike groups of Task Force Belligerent, or an intimidating, heavy hitting starship like the Odyssey-class Command Battleship USS Formidable, but a powerful enough starship that can do the job but that was less conspicuous, the USS Tughril was one of the alternative choices of Denorios Command, together with the USS Zhukov.

The USS Zhukov was one of the RRF starships that were deployed to escort and protect the USS Orpheus in its missions around the AOR of Denorios Command.

The USS Zhukov would frequently serve as the primary defense support of the starships of Deep Space 9 II's Station Support Task Force, which provide varied forms of assistance to the member worlds of the Alliance.

During Condition Green, when there was a need for the formation of a battle group, but the squadron formations of the task force were in the middle of their respective missions and could not be formed into mission groups, the Katana-class Command Battleship USS Belligerent and its companion ships would form a temporary battle group with the USS Zhukov and the USS Tughril to take on these critical missions.

On certain occasions, this temporary battle group is reinforced by the Wakizashi-class Destroyer USS Moro and the Nova-class Tactical Frigate USS Eclipse from the Alpha Quadrant to strengthen its ranks.

On some occasions, the USS Formidable would team up with the USS Zhukov and the USS Tughril on high profile missions.
