Yinik was an elderly Sandolian who was well-versed in Sandolian legend.

In 2366, Yinik confirmed the legend of their god with supreme powers according to his ancestors, "who could appear and disappear at will", after Pomin experienced a visit to the USS Valentine. After much discussion, he remained skeptical of the old superstitions that were being rekindled.

When the Sandolians were tricked by Decker about seeing another dressed like Livingston, a Federation scientist they had captured nearby, Yinik was told to stay and bind Livingston. After everyone left the building, Yinik was bound and gagged by Williams, so that he could free and escape with Livingston.

Following the escape of Livingston, whom they believed to be one of the god's servants, and their fear of his wrath against them took hold, Yinik attempted to downplay the much trumped-up legends that were the driving force behind their fear.

Yinik was later present when Johnson visited the group, even inquiring as to why they were being watched from a duck blind. (TNA: "The Discovery")
